Some of the Best of the Web

Many career centers have some sort of “international opportunities” web page, usually linking to a few other articles or job search pages elsewhere on the web. Here are a few of the pages we’ve found to be the most substantial and most useful. If you have your own favorite site, email us - and be sure to tell us why it’s so good.

The Big Sites
Compiled by Go Global!

These sites have earned good reputations for the breadth and currency of their listings, functionality, and a host of other features. We recommend that you take a little bit of time with each and then frequent those sites that best serve your personal career interests and goals.

Exploring your Options
Compiled by Go Global!

Some of the best pages are the ones you’d only think to visit when you are just starting your exploration. These pages give an overview of the entire international job search process, strategy, information on the job market in particular sectors and/or regions, etc. Despite the “introductory” character of these pages, the links on our Exploring your Options page will take you to some of the best informational sites on the web. What you learn from them may tip the balance in your favor during the hard-fought job search.

GlobalEdge
Center for International Business Education and Research at Michigan State University

From the website: “a knowledge web-portal that connects international business professionals worldwide to a wealth of information, insights, and learning resources on global business activities.” While the site focuses on business-related issues it has an extensive library of links, including some of the best Country Insight pages with information and annotated links to resources for every country, accessible from the site’s Resource Desk.

Work Abroad
Overseas Opportunities Office, University of Michigan

One of the excellent overview sites on the internet, it gives an organized, well-annotated tour of the process of gaining employment abroad. Though a number of links are no longer operative, it is one of the best overall sites for reminding us of the complexity of the process and linking us to useful and relevant sites.
